SMC MFA Virtual Information Session #5: An Evening with Matthew Zapruder (Poetry)

Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 7:00 PM until 8:00 PMPacific Standard Time UTC -08:00

Thinking about pursuing an MFA degree to further develop your craft in poetry?

You're invited to join Saint Mary's MFA in Creative Writing core faculty member Matthew Zapruder for an evening discussion revolving around poetry as a genre, pursuing an MFA degree, and finding a fulfilling career in writing. All prospective students and current applicants interested in poetry or interdisciplinary writing are strongly encouraged to attend.

Saint Mary's Virtual Information Sessions are designed to give prospective students the opportunity to connect directly with our faculty, staff, and students in a smaller environment. While we'll often speak specifically to the program here at SMC, we hope that this session will be informative and beneficial for anyone who's looking to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing.

Our Assistant Director of Admissions will also be on hand to answer any questions about the application process. Our final application deadline is Friday, January 31st, 2025 and you can check out our Admissions page for more details.

Matthew Zapruder is the author of six collections of poetry, including I Love Hearing Your Dreams (Scribner, 2024) and Father’s Day (Copper Canyon, 2019), as well as Why Poetry, a book of prose (Ecco, 2017). He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a William Carlos Williams Award, a May Sarton Award from the Academy of American Arts and Sciences, and a Lannan Foundation Residency Fellowship. His writing and translations have appeared in many publications and anthologies. His poems have appeared in Best American Poetry 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2020—and he edited the 2022 edition. He is editor at large at Wave Books, where he edits contemporary poetry, prose, and translations.
