Register for this upcoming information session featuring PSM Program Director Dr. Vidya Chandrasekaran and SMC faculty member Michael Crockett to learn more about our two-year, hybrid graduate STEM program highlighting the interdisciplinary conversations between science and the business side of the biotechnology industry.Applications are now open for a Fall 2026 start with cohort graduation planned for Spring 2028. The program includes flexible evening and weekend courses tailored to the busy lives of working professionals and is designed with the small class size and faculty attention that is a hallmark of Saint Mary's College. Dr. Vidya Chandrasekaran is an experienced scientist, educator and a collaborative, strategic leader committed to a high quality, rigorous education and training of a diverse group of science professionals. She is dedicated to making student-centered science education affordable and accessible to a wide range of STEM students and launched the Professional Science Master's in Biotechnology program at Saint Mary's College of California. She received her PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the State University of New York at Buffalo and has been teaching at Saint Mary's since 2007. In addition to serving as faculty at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, Dr. Chandrasekaran works one-on-one with our graduate students throughout their time in the PSM program to better identify long-term career goals, guide them through the job search process, and offer support as they navigate the professional world.
Michael Crockett is a PSM faculty member, Saint Mary's alum with degrees in Biology/Chemistry and Philosophy, and a seasoned veteran of the Biotechnology industry—bringing over 35 years of practical real-life experience, numerous industry connections, and countless professional insights into the classroom at SMC.
For 10 years, Mr. Crockett worked at Scios Inc. where he was a senior member of the corporate management board, reporting directly to the CEO. An experienced and respected leader at Scios, Mr. Crockett played a leading role in managing and directing the Scios drug development program for both new molecular entities and established marketed products. As the Sr. Director of Project Management and Drug Development, Mr. Crockett established the company's first Program Management process and systems.
Prior to joining Scios in 1997, Mr. Crockett worked at Genentech for over 12 years. During that time, he served in a variety of managerial positions in Regulatory Affairs and manufacturing operations that supported the clinical development and commercialization of its then leading products.
