Interested in Saint Mary's MFA in Dance? Try Out a Virtual Class!

Saint Mary's MFA in Dance is a low-residency program that offers a multidisciplinary terminal degree in Creative Practice that can lead to tenure-track teaching jobs or roles in the professional dance world—an MFA with an approach that respects the diversity, social justice, and values of the Bay Area dance community.

Furthermore, our program is designed to favor motivated adults and accommodate professional schedules, offering close-knit in-person intensives in Summer and January Terms alongside online courses throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. Even though these classes are held online, we are committed to cultivating the continued artistic growth of our students while respecting the connections to their communities, families, and professional responsibilities.

Want to get a better sense of how our online classes work first-hand? You're invited to join our Fall Seminar in Phenomenology class, a seminar-styled course focusing on a critical view of dance and the moving body from a theoretical perspective.

In this session taught by MFA Program Director Rosana Barragan, SMC alumni will be joining to talk about previous thesis work followed by a discussion of class readings—combining alumni perspectives with an experience to participate in class conversations, we believe this is a great opportunity for prospective MFA students to engage with the Dance community here at Saint Mary's.

Students are invited to join us from 11am-12pm PDT for the alumni presentations and/or the class reading discussion that follows—while all visitors are asked to join at the beginning of the session to facilitate introductions and community, prospective students are free to leave the session at whatever time is convenient for them.

Register using the form below and you will receive a Zoom link and any relevant readings needed to prepare for the class. While we will be sharing reading materials, we also want to emphasize that there is no pressure to actively participate in the conversation—so feel free to explore the classroom dynamic as actively as you'd like.

We look forward to meeting you and have any questions? Contact Collin at cas38@stmarys-ca.edu for more information and details.
